How To Live a Badass Life

Hey FunLifers,
This week on Pursuit of Balance, I dove into one of my favorite topics: what it really takes to live a badass life.
Here’s the thing — living with intention, courage, and joy doesn’t just “happen.” The world is designed to make us comfortable, distracted, and stressed. If you want more than the default, you have to design it.
I broke it down into 8 principles that anyone can apply.
1. Get Clear on What You Actually Want
Most people live a default life, not a designed life.
Ask yourself:
If money, judgment, and failure didn’t exist, how would I spend my days?
What would my weeks look like? My work? My relationships?
Write it down. Reverse-engineer it. And align it with your values — not what others expect of you.
2. Build an Anti-Fragile Body & Mind
A strong life starts with a strong body. Train your mind through your body: lift, move, run, stretch, recover.
Expose yourself to discomfort — whether it’s a tough workout, a cold plunge, or even public speaking. Discomfort builds resilience.
Progressive overload isn’t just for the gym — it’s for life. Growth comes from doing a little more than yesterday.
3. Protect Your Energy Like It’s Cash
Energy is your life’s currency. Guard it with boundaries.
Say no without apology.
Cut distractions (phones, social media, gossip).
Design your week around priorities.
Be mindful of emotional bandwidth — you can’t give from an empty cup.
4. Master the Stress & Recovery Cycle
Badasses don’t avoid stress — they use it. Push hard in seasons of growth, then intentionally recharge. Without recovery, effort just turns into burnout.
5. Play the Long Game
Stop chasing quick wins and short-term dopamine. Whether it’s money, health, or relationships, the compounding effect of consistent effort is what builds lasting success.
6. Choose Courage Over Comfort
We live in a world built for convenience. That’s the enemy of growth.
Courage means choosing the harder, better path: cook instead of DoorDash, take the stairs, push through the last rep. Hard things make you strong.
7. Surround Yourself with People Who Level You Up
Your environment is everything. Spend time with people who energize, inspire, and challenge you. Limit time with those who drain you. It’s not harsh — it’s necessary.
8. Leave a Dent in the Universe
Living a badass life isn’t just about you. Once you fill your own cup, pour into others. Give back. Raise strong families. Build communities. Spread love, not fear.
The truth is: you already have the keys to your life.
